A Message from Dr. Quatmann:

All of my patients will continue to have a primary care veterinarian. This may be my practice partner, Dr.Bridget Hickman, or any of our wonderful colleagues and clinics in the Roanoke region and beyond. My focus will be on providing care for those patients and families in need of something beyond that traditionally provided. For example, cancer patients receiving treatments such as surgery, chemotherapy or radiation may still benefit from holistic care such as acupuncture for pain relief and improved appetite, and herbal supplements to improve blood counts, decrease bleeding, provide pain relief or mushroom supplements to improve immune function or manual therapy/body work to relieve tension and improve comfort and function.  The cancer patients who, for any reason, are not good candidates for surgery, chemotherapy or radiation may still benefit from holistic therapies. In every case the goal is to provide each patient and family a good quality of life while helping to navigate the difficult and complex path of cancer care. Similarly geriatric patients and their families often benefit from integrated care. Acupuncture and bodywork to improve their mobility and comfort such as weak back ends and incontinence issues. Botanical medicines and other supplements to address poor appetite, insomnia, confusion, decreased kidney and liver function, anemia and so on. Experience to help navigate the many options and in making good choices for our elderly friends. Likewise this experience and holistic training allow me to provide families with additional treatment options for seizures, heart/liver/kidney disease, feline idiopathic cystitis, Lyme disease, chronic vomiting or diarrhea, allergies, nasal congestion, asthma, immune mediated diseases like IMHA and ITP, endocrine diseases such as hypo and hyperthyroidism, diabetes and cushings, behavior challenges such as separation anxiety and urinating outside of the litterbox, osteoarthritis, interverterbral disk disease, lick granulomas and more.

My integrative exam appointments vary in length depending on the needs of the patient and client. Most appointments are 45minutes in length and include a full integrative exam, holistic recommendations and treatments as appropriate such as acupuncture and manual therapy/manipulation. Patient comfort is very important to me so I never force my patients to have acupuncture. Surprisingly, most of them actually love it. The patients who do not enjoy acupuncture for the most part enjoy bodywork - even the kitties. New patient appointments and newly diagnosed cancer patient appointments are 60minutes in length. Frequently seen patients in need of weekly acupuncture or bodywork may only require 30minute appointments. Those clients who prefer longer appointment times to allow for in depth conversations are welcome to schedule accordingly. Additionally, I will be helping Dr.Hickman with tending to our patients who need same day care with traditional medicine, scheduled for 30minute appointments.
